A Burst of Blue

While channel surfing before bed last night, I stumbled upon Kate Hudson sitting in the guest chair on "The Late Show with David Letterman." In the segment, Letterman was whipping up a batch of waffles for the giggly actress. (I'm not sure what waffles had to do with Kate Hudson; I missed the opening of the interview.) My initial reaction was, "Wow, those waffles look delicious." My second? "Wow, Kate Hudson's eye shadow is gorgeous."

Check out Kate's eye-catching makeup below. (Sorry about the short commercial leading into the clip.)

I'm a big fan of brightly colored eye shadow, especially in the summer. Don't be afraid to play around with make-up! I change up the colors I use on my eyes every day depending on what mood I'm in and what I'm wearing. I don't have a standard "look." Lately I've been experimenting with sweeping bright green or marine blue shadow across my lids with a bit of mascara for a pop of color during the day. To make the look more dramatic for night, try lining your upper lids and inside your lower rim with a black liner like Kate.

If you're ready to be bold, try Mombasa, a teal-colored mineral-based powder eyeshadow by Glamo-Glitz. For a more subtle look, wet a skinny make-up brush and use Mombasa as a liner over a neutral shadow. That's the brilliant thing about Glamo-Glitz--you can wear it dry or wet. Check out our 14 favorite shades ($16 each), including Mombasa, at Trocadero.

Inspiration by way of Talaria

After Trocadero got the new Matt Bernson Talaria sandal earlier this week, I felt a whiff of inspiration, as if from the gods. Just kidding. But it's an awfully cute sandal, and it can be worn in tons of ways.
Open Skies
Our looks this week all focus on this cute, versatile gladiator with a darling pair of wings at each ankle. First, a glittery mini dress paired with a Pade Vavra knuckle duster pearl ring, a simple Anya Hindmarch clutch and an adorable Pluma feather headband gets you ready for girls night out. Next, we update the ubiquitous black legging with a simple gray tank, an updated boyfriend blazer and the go-anywhere Sasha convertible hobo from Botkier. Finally, let your winged sandals take you though the workday in a simple black blouse, a brightly-colored tulip skirt and signature expandable bangles from Alex and Ani. None of these looks would be complete without a sprinkle of the truly addictive Glamo Glitz eye shadow from Scarlett Cosmetics.

And, in case you were wondering, the Talaria sandals are named after the winged sandals worn by the Greek Gods, most often Hermes, the messenger god. Pretty good lineage for a sandal, no?

All accessories above are available in store now at Trocadero! Clothes designed by Chloe, Elizabeth and James, American Apparel, Helmut Lang, James Perse and Lipsy.

All that Glitters

When I was first was introduced to Glamo-Glitz, a multi-use cosmetic dust from Scarlett Cosmetics, I was a bit skeptical.  I guess it's something you just have to try because Scarlett herself gave us each a Glamo-Glitz to test out. I chose Medusa, a dark yellow-green, and have been wearing it ever since either over eyeshadow or by itself. I was happily surprised that the glitter doesn't irritate my contacts, and after further research, I learned that Glamo-Glitz is mineral-based and talc-free. It can be used wet or dry, and can be worn as mascara, eyeshadow, eyeliner, lip shimmer or body shimmer. Talk about practical makeup! Today I brushed on Creamsicle over my trusty Medusa and was very pleased at how well the colors blended together to create my very own personal look. And we carry 12 different Glamo-Glitzs to choose from. But don't just listen to me rave, you have to try it for yourself....it's the Scarlett way.
