Mojito Madness!

The mojito, a traditional Cuban highball, is one of my favorite summertime drinks. It was also a favorite of author Ernest Hemingway! According to the website Taste of Cuba, this is the mojito recipe that Hemingway enjoyed at La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana, Cuba, the supposed birthplace of the mojito.

1 teaspoon powdered sugar
Juice from 1 lime (2 ounces)
4 mint leaves
1 sprig of mint
Havana Club white Rum (2 ounces)
2 ounces club soda

While we can't mix you a drink at the Troc, we can offer you Malin + Goetz's mojito-scented candles and mojito soap sets, featuring individual bars of peppermint, rum and lime soap. Almost as good as the real thing!

What is your favorite beverage to sip during the summer?

fresh watermelon juice! or even better watermelon bloody marys!

cut off the ends of a watermelon to stand upright. carve the rind from the watermelon (including all the white). puree watermelon chunks, seeds and all, and strain the juice through a fine sieve.

for bloody marys:
- 2 cups watermelon chunks (from a four-pounder)
- tsp. sugar,or to taste
- ice, for serving
- 1 1/2 cups tomato juice
- 13 dashes hot sauce, or to taste
- 1 1/2 tsp. Worchestershire
- 1 1/4 tsp. sea salt
- 1/2 tsp. celery seeds, ground (or celery salt)
- 1 to 1 1/2 cups vodka (i go for 1 1/2 :)
- celery stalks, for serving

I couldn't get enough of Pimms and lemonade while I was in London last summer, and when I got back I was glad to see that it's sold stateside as well. I love that I'm able to offer my friends a drink that they haven't tried yet when they're over.

I also love the Sangria at Urban Wine Company. I order it every time.
